Department of Mass Communication
Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University
About Department
The Department of Mass Communication originated alongside the establishment of the Department of Mass Communication and Public Relations in 1965. It later became one of the four founding departments of the Faculty of Communication Arts in 1974. The department focuses on providing education that aligns with the dynamics of today’s media landscape. Its curriculum encompasses theoretical and conceptual foundations of mass communication, along with practical principles of media design and production — including on-screen media and audio media. It also emphasizes the understanding of the relationship between mass media, society, and culture. The department’s teaching approach integrates academic learning with hands-on practice to cultivate professional skills in content design for visual and audio media, grounded in a strong sense of social responsibility.
Graduates are equipped to pursue careers in media design and production, both as independent professionals and as members of media organizations. They are trained to become media producers with expertise in visual and audio storytelling, capable of creating diverse and innovative content within the context of media convergence. Career paths include roles such as program hosts, scriptwriters, directors, and mass communication researchers, among others.
